Our mission — To promote Judeo-Christian values through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

We are an independent, nonprofit corporation. Under the auspices of the YMCA of the USA, Ozarks Regional YMCA and its branch organizations work closely to accomplish the shared national missions of building strong kids, strong families and strong communities.

We are driven by community needs, and guided by community volunteers and open to all. Each YMCA uniquely reflects the communities it serves.

No one is ever turned away due to the inability to pay for memberships and services. Financial assistance is available.

We have a large group of volunteers that help run our programs and administer our goals and objectives. The YMCA’s Board of Directors is comprised of 30 community leaders. These directors volunteer their time to oversee the mission of the YMCA and make decisions to guide its direction. In addition, hundreds of individuals volunteer to coach youth sports, lead Camp Wakonda programs, run our special events, maintain our facilities and more. The YMCA simply could not function without volunteerism.

Does any other “gym” do this?

• The Y distributed over $1,000,000.00 in financial assistance to Southwest Missourians in 2006. Through funding from the United Way of the Ozarks and our annual Strong Kids Financial Assistance Campaign we were able to provide assistance to those in need.

• We awarded $93,824 in free memberships to foster families through our Foster Family Assistance Program.

• We awarded $13,331 in free memberships to area military families with a parent deployed out of the country.

•Our Prime Time before and after-school child care program served 2,260 children each day at 43 different schools throughout Springfield and the surrounding communities.

The values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility are incorporated into every program offered at the Y. From our before and afterschool child care, youth sports, gymnastics and swimming lessons to aerobic and fitness classes, martial arts, senior fitness and teen programming. The YMCA strives to offer the highest quality of programming, utilizing state-of-the-art facilities. In many cases, our programming benefits those individuals at greatest risk in our community. Forty to seventy percent of every program is subsidized by United Way funding. Ozarks Regional YMCA is proud to be part of the United Way of the Ozarks.

Attire — Athletic shoes and shirts must be worn during exercise in all workout areas of the facility. Street shoes are not permitted in the gyms or racquetball courts. Proper swimsuits must be worn when using the pool, whirlpool and sauna. Since we are a family organization, please refrain from promoting profanity, liquor or cigarettes on any clothing. We strongly recommend the use of eye guards for racquetball.

Corporate Membership Discounts — The Corporate Membership program is available where a minimum of 10 employees join from a company. The benefits are 75% off the building fee and 10% off the monthly membership fee.

Discounts — YMCA members get discounts by presenting their membership card at participating businesses.

Financial assistance is available for up to 90% of program or membership costs for those who qualify. Assistnace is funded by grants and through our annual Strong Kids Financial Assistance Program. For more information on how to donate or volunteer for the Strong Kids Campaign, please contact Rhoda Clark at 417.862.8962, X159.

Food and Beverages — No food or beverages are allowed in gyms, racquetball courts, pools or workout areas, with the exception of water bottles.

And due to a rapidly growing base, your YMCA can better serve you by using card logins to help manage peak facility usage. Card cost is included in your membership fee. Replacement cards are $2. Your Membership ID card is also valuable if you plan on visiting another YMCA. Most YMCAs are part of a reciprocal service called the AWAY [Always Welcome At the YMCA] program, through which you may use facilities all over the world for free or at a reduced rate.

Suggestions — This is your YMCA. Please make your concerns and comments known. Suggestion cards are available at any Welcome Center.

Valuables — The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen items. We recommend you not bring valuables into the facility. If you do, please lock them safely in a locker.

Volunteer Opportunities — No matter what your special talents, interests and schedules are, you can help change someone’s life at the YMCA. If you share our commitment to the continued well being of our youth and community, please consider becoming a YMCA volunteer.

• Use of cameras and video phones is prohibited.

• Respecting the property of others; never engaging in theft or destruction.

• Creating a safe, caring environment; never possessing, using or distributing a weapon.

Youth Safe Haven Policy Zero — Tolerance PhilosophyTo all parents and guardians of YMCA participants—We hope you will have a meaningful and positive experience in each YMCA program. Our goal is for each child to receive positive reinforcement, attain success, gain exposure to role models and have a safe experience. To help ensure those things, we maintain a Zero Tolerance Policy.

The Zero Tolerance for abuse philosophy compels the YMCA to make every effort to prevent child abuse that includes but is not limited to:

• Conducting staff and volunteer background checks.

• Training staff and volunteers in Child Abuse Prevention.

• Taking allegations or suspicions of child abuse seriously, reporting them to police or government agencies for investigation.

• Continual evaluation of programs and facilities to ensure a safe environment. As the parent or guardian of a child participating in a YMCA program, we ask that you help in keeping your child safe by:

• Knowing where and when your child is participating.• Visiting and/or participating any program site your child is attending.

• Stressing the importance of communicating to you if someone does or says something that makes them uncomfortable. Emphasize that adults should not ask your child to keep secrets from you.

• Explaining to your child their basic right to privacy and that no one should touch them inappropriately or compel them to touch someone else inappropriately.

• Talking to your child about their activities following each event.

• Being concerned if your child suddenly becomes withdrawn or balks at attending certain activities or being around a volunteer or staff member. Tactfully seek a reason for the behavior.

• Reporting staff or volunteer actions you deem inappropriate to a YMCA Branch Executive. The Branch Executive will launch an immediate investigation.
